Clubhouse Community of Hope

A place where you belong.

Clubhouse Community of Hope is a welcoming community for adults living with mental health challenges.

Members build relationships, participate in meaningful work, develop skills, and pursue goals related to wellness, education, employment, and greater independence.

More than a program. A community.

At Clubhouse, people are members, not patients or clients.

Members and staff work side by side to carry out the daily life of the Clubhouse. Everyone has something meaningful to contribute, and participation is centered on relationships, strengths, choice, and opportunity.

CORE PRINCIPLES

The Clubhouse is built on four core principles:

1

A Place to Come

The Clubhouse is always here for you. We provide a safe, respectful, and productive environment to spend your day.

2

Meaningful Work

The work that runs our Clubhouse community is done side-by-side by members and staff. Every person’s contribution is valued.

3

Meaningful Relationships

This community is built on genuine, trusting relationships between members and staff. We believe these relationships are the key to recovery.

4

A Place to Return

If you leave for any reason, you are always a member. You can return to our community whenever you are ready.

Understanding the Clubhouse approach.

Clubhouse Community of Hope is a community built on belonging, shared purpose, and the belief that every person has strengths, talents, and the potential to thrive. Rather than following a traditional medical model, Clubhouse emphasizes participation, meaningful work, social connection, wellness, and personal growth as essential parts of recovery. Everyone has something valuable to contribute, and each member is encouraged to participate in ways that reflect their interests, abilities, and aspirations.

A day built around participation and purpose.

Clubhouse Community of Hope follows a voluntary, structured day built around shared work, participation, and connection.

Members are encouraged to contribute their strengths and interests in ways that feel meaningful to them. Participation is voluntary, and members have the right to return to the Clubhouse and reconnect with the community, even after time away. There is no expectation to be perfect or to have everything figured out—recovery is a journey, and everyone belongs.Depending on current Clubhouse services and member interests, activities may take place within two primary units:

Kitchen / Garden / Wellness

  • Preparing meals and sharing responsibility for the kitchen

  • Caring for gardens and maintaining shared spaces

  • Welcoming visitors and helping create a warm, inclusive environment

  • Participating in activities that encourage wellness and healthy routines

Administration / Education / Employment

  • Supporting administrative tasks and daily Clubhouse operations

  • Planning activities and helping coordinate community events

  • Building technology, communication, and organizational skills

  • Exploring educational opportunities and personal learning goals

  • Developing employment skills, preparing resumes, and exploring career opportunities

Members also have opportunities to build relationships, collaborate with others, and discover new strengths through meaningful participation. The goal is not simply to fill the day with activities, but to foster belonging, purpose, confidence, and the skills that support recovery and a more fulfilling life.

Common Questions

Is Clubhouse therapy?

Overflow provides community programs, education, resources, and connections. It does not replace professional medical, psychiatric, or emergency care.

Is Clubhouse a residential program?

No. Clubhouse Community of Hope is a voluntary, community-based day program, not a residential facility. Members participate in activities during the day and return to their own homes afterward.

What does membership cost?

Membership is free. There is a nominal fee for lunch. The goal is to provide a welcoming, supportive community where individuals can focus on recovery, personal growth, and building independence without a membership fee.

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A referral from your community mental health provider is required to become a member. If you are interested in joining, contact your provider or reach out to Clubhouse Community of Hope for guidance on getting started.

Can family members visit?

Family support is important to recovery, and Overflow Foundation recognizes the impact mental health challenges can have on loved ones. Contact the Clubhouse team to ask about arranging a visit, learning about the program, or finding opportunities for family involvement.

What happens during a typical day?

Each day centers on the Work-Ordered Day, where members and staff work together on meaningful tasks that help operate the Clubhouse while building practical life skills. Activities may include planning meals, grocery shopping, preparing lunch, gardening, practicing computer skills, participating in educational classes, developing resumes, exploring career opportunities, and strengthening workplace skills. Members also have opportunities to connect with others, work as a team, and build meaningful relationships in a supportive community. Members can participate in different units based on their individual interests, strengths, and goals.AdAd optionsLearn more

Do I have to attend every day?

No. Membership is voluntary, and members can choose when to participate. Regular attendance can help members build routines, develop stronger relationships, and get more out of the Clubhouse experience. Contact the team to discuss a schedule that works for you.

Is transportation available?

Transportation availability should be confirmed directly with the Clubhouse team. If transportation is a concern, let the team know when you inquire about membership so they can discuss any available assistance or community resources.

Can Clubhouse help with employment or education?

Yes. Employment and education are important parts of the Clubhouse model. Members can build job-readiness skills, work on resumes, develop computer skills, explore educational opportunities, and receive support in working toward personal goals. The program emphasizes each member's strengths and potential, helping them take steps toward greater independence and meaningful participation in the community.
